A remembrance of Adele and Fred Astaire, written by Franny Bradshaw, which appeared in the December 1945 edition of Vogue. Fanny was their neighbor and attended school with them in Weehawken. She is pictured in a 1910 photograph of Miss Greenwood's dance class with the Astaires (see item WHC88314). Ms. Bradshaw grew up to become and speech and dramatic coach and lived in New York.
The family of the then very young Fred and Adele Astaire lived on Eldorado Place in the early years of the twentieth century. This photo and article from the Weehawken Reporter (1987) provides some background to the famous dancer's time here, as told by Helene Anderson, an old friend and long-time Weehawken resident. Included is a black and white photograph of the Astaires and their class at Miss Greenwood's Dancing School circa 1910.
